About the series

Behind My Stories

is an adventure documentary series that shows the travels of photographer Diego Huerta throughout Mexico, portraying the uses and customs of native people, as well as the most representative of a country rich in culture and traditions.

In this first season, Diego will undertake a journey of more than 28,000 miles from the north of Mexico, to the Lacandon jungle in the State of Chiapas, and then end up in the Colorado canyon looking for the Native American Navajo people. During his journey, Diego must face the extreme heat of the Sonora desert, sleep in remote places surrounded by spectacular landscapes. A trip that promises a new adventure every day.

Every journey I make is a new life that I live

Diego Huerta is a documentary photographer and cinematographer specialized in portraiture. For more than a decade, Diego has dedicated himself to documenting the native people of Mexico, allowing him to discover forgotten places that hold significant cultural wealth. Through his lens, Diego has created an essential photographic archive never created before. His work has bend published by National Geographic magazine and different media in the United States.

Each trip starts from the city of Austin, Texas, where he currently lives.

Episodes Season One

  • 01Tehuana

    EP1 - Diego travels with Fraile, his Labrador Retriever, to the village of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, where he will begin his first documentary feature film on the Tehuana woman and her lifestyle. The extreme heat will put Diego to the limit of his abilities.

  • 02Day of the Dead

    EP2 - Diego drives to the city of Oaxaca, where he will live days full of magic and color. From the cempasúchil fields with women cutting the flower, the streets of the city of Oaxaca full of music and joy, to the town of Tlacolula de Matamoros where Diego will spend the night next to La Catrina.

  • 03Charros & Escaramuzas

    EP3 - Diego will undertake a long journey through the States of San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, and Jalisco. Brave men and women who risk their lives making luck on their horses. The dust and heat will be Diego's companions in this new adventure.

  • 04Pátzcuaro

    EP4 - Diego moves to the State of Michoacán to document the amaizing culture of the Purepechas. Diego will document their dances and celebrations. Extreme weather will be the setting for Diego on this great journey.

    EP5 - A journey of more than 6,400 kilometers on the roads of Mexico to enter the deepest part of the desert, where Diego will seek to teach photography of the Mayos.

    EP6 - Diego crosses the north of Mexico, where he will have to go to the State of Sonora, where he will portray the Native people Yaquis. This will be the end of this journey, but the beginning of a new adventure that is still to come.
